Our Nations Oldest Family Funeral Home
In 1848, former U.S. President John Quincy Adams collapsed and died on the floor of the House of Representatives. We arranged his funeral. In 1912, the grand-nephew of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, a member of the Cabinet, passed away. We provided funeral services for him, as well. Since our founding, this historic company has provided funeral arrangements for heroes of conflicts as far back as the Revolutionary War, most of Marylands governors, and dignitaries such Charles Carroll, the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence, and philanthropist Johns Hopkins.

In fact, we are the oldest funeral home in the United States that has operated continuously under the same name
for over two centuries. George Washington was still alive when Michael Jenkins founded our company in 1799. Mr. Jenkins, a noted furniture craftsman and the coroner of Baltimore, died while serving the city when he went out among victims of a cholera epidemic in 1832. His sons Anthony and Henry continued the firm, and the name was changed when Henry bought his brothers share in 1857.

In 1958, upon the death of company president David W. Jenkins, management passed to the Slade family. Today, the family of John A. Slade, Kandi Slade and her son, Bill Davis, continue to preserve the grand tradition of a venerable company that is justly proud of its two centuries of personal, compassionate service to the families of the Baltimore area.
